Guaranteed laugh.  Watch this video I produced with Grant Goodeve with the Closed Captioning turned on.  It’s so wrong it’s almost perfect – how does Mukilteo become Wachovia?

After I finally stopped laughing, and wiped the tears from my eyes, I felt awful for the people who actually need to read these captions. I realized that bad CC copy must be a constant in the Deaf Community. I’d like to apologize right here, and would be glad to send the actual script I wrote to anyone who asks for it. The bad CC version is actually much funnier though.  Please, Visit Senior Washington! Just don’t look for Wachovia. It isn’t here ...

Sudden Valley and the "Magic" Distance

I drove out to the Sudden Valley Golf Course last weekend totally stoked with the idea that 1) it was sunny out; and 2) I’ve been playing OK of late so maybe had expectations that were a smidge higher than I deserved.

For us, last weekend, that place was Camano Island State Park. Only about an hour from Seattle, it’s a quick – and beautiful – getaway. And in late spring and early fall, it’s ...

Touching the Turbine at Wild Horse

When I’m driving west on I-90 from Vantage, I’m a hazard because I stare at the wind turbines instead of the road. I always stop at the Ryegrass Rest Area just to gawk more. I want to touch one.

So when I discovered I could at the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility, I begged my boss at Evening Magazine to let me produce a story about the place.  There’s a free visitors center, trails for mountain biking and horse riding, and guided wildflower walks in the spring. Of course, I had an ulterior motive: I’d get to touch my turbine.

Then, when good folks at Puget Sound Energy agreed to let me and my camera-man climb to the top of a towe ...
